I ran into DJ Jam the other night. For those who don't know Jam has been putting it down for years in LA. He was a main mixer for 92.3 The Beat and now he rocks the tables for Power 106. His other claim to fame is that he does the spinning for Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre.. Jam was keeping me abreast of all the upcoming projects he and Snoop have coming down the pipe. First, the Chronic 2001 in tour should be kicking off in March.. Thus far you can expect to see Dre, Snoop and Eminem putting it down. There will most likely be some other folks added to the list, but that hasn't been finalized yet..

The other project coming down the pipe will be the WBALLS mixtapes which will feature exclusive freestyles and appearances from Snoop, Battlecat The Dogg Pound and perhaps Dre. WBALLS is the fictional radio station that got everyone talking when Snoop dropped his first album 'Doggy Style'. Jam also plans to drop a series of mixtapes entitled 'DJ Jam Presents back To The Old School with Dr Dre'. It will feature highlights of Dre's old 'Swap Meet' mixtapes with Ren and Eazy E as well as Dre just putting it down and getting busy on three tables. I have a couple of those old tapes..and I have to be honest, back in the days Dr Dre was no joke when it came to rockin' the tables..

With the release of these old school tape featuring Dre, it will be a nice compliment to old school DJ Charlie Chase of the East Coast pioneering group the Cold Crush Brothers who has been releasing old school tapes of their group and others from back in the days.. In fact if you head on over to my site you can hear http://www.daveyd.com, you can hear one of the Cold Crush Brothers old routines.. I should add, I have quite an extensive collection of old school tapes from '77-'79 since I used to roll with a group and make tapes of all those gigs from back in the days.

Currently Jam has a nice website http://www.djjam.com that's worth peeping. he aslo has some slamming mixtapes circulating about town including 'The Hotspot' and 'Midnight Grooves'. If anyone wants more info on his upcoming projects including the Dr Dre old school tapes or WBALLS.. the drop him a note at mailto:djjam@djjam.com Tell him Davey D sent ya... You may also want to contact Jam just to send him product since he and Snoop do the Dogghouse Show every Saturday on Power 106.

Lastly if you're looking for a good book.. I have to give major major major props to Snoop's autobiography The Doggfather.. It is by far one of the most compelling books I've read in a very long time.. Snoop pulls know punches on his life story, yet at the same time he doesn't glamorize some of the exploits he's been through.. Snoop does a great job bridging the generation gap and I gotta be honest, I think the man really stepped up. he talks about everything from gang life to prison to his wife and his relationship with his mother. Parents would do good to read this book and open up some discussions with their teenage kids..

Since we're talking about mixtapes.. we can't forget DJ Clue. I spoke to him the other day and he let me know that there will be a follow up to his album 'The Professional'. In late March/early April look for the release of 'The Professional Pt 2'. He didn't get a chance to rock the turntables while he was here in the Bay Area because he was feeling sick.. But he promised that the new lp was gonna be slamming with quite a few surprise guests..
